Scotland's first Bitcoin Conference will bring the community together to discuss and learn more about the opportunities that crytpocurrencies provide for both our local and global communities.

Top speakers from the Bitcoin ecosystem around the globe (including the Bitcoin Foundation, BitPay and PeerNova) will be coming to Edinburgh to discuss the key issues. We'll look more closely into issues relating to the underlying technology, entrepreneurship, investment and regulation amongst many others.

Jon Matonis

Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation

Jon Matonis is an e-money researcher and crypto economist focused on expanding the circulation of non-political digital currencies. His career has included senior influential posts at Sumitomo Bank, Visa, VeriSign, and Hushmail. Currently, he is Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation and also serves on its board. Jon earned his B.A. in Economics at George Washington University in 1985.

Garrick Hileman

Economic Historian, London School of Economics

Garrick Hileman is an economic historian at the London School of Economics and the founder of He has 15+ years of private sector experience including work with both startups and established companies such as Bank of America, IDG, and Allianz. Garrick also worked in both equity research and corporate finance at Montgomery Securities.

Wouter Vonk

European Marketing Manager at BitPay

Wouter Vonk, European Marketing Manager at BitPay, has a long history in e-commerce and marketing industries. He has been actively involved with marketing strategies for major retailers across Europe. Besides his marketing experience Wouter has been interested in the growth and future of what is probably the greatest innovation since the internet. Prior to joining Bitpay, Wouter is the owner of, Europe's first gold and silver webshop that accepts Bitcoin.

Gangesh Ganesan

CTO, Peernova

Gangesh Ganesan serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Peernova. Mr. Ganesan is an experienced technologist and entrepreneur and has served as an advisor to numerous startups in the Semiconductor, Cloud and Software industries. Mr. Ganesan was co-founder and CEO of a Hadoop Big Data startup called Factals from 2012 to 2013. From 2008 to 2012, Mr. Ganesan served as President and CEO of Ubicom, a network processor company that was acquired by Qualcomm. Prior to joining Ubicom.

Dug Campbell

Event Organiser and Bitcoin Champion

Dug started his career as a startup lawyer, qualified in both England and Scotland and working for well over a decade across the UK with high-growth tech startup businesses and their investors. After an MBA from Edinburgh University, he became a digital strategy consultant. He's a regular commentator on Scottish TV, newspaper and radio and speaks at conferences on the disruptive potential of Bitcoin to reshape society.

Sveinn Valfells

Angel Investor

Sveinn Valfells has 16 years experience as founder, manager, adviser or investor in biotech (deCode Genetics, Atlas Genetics), bioinformatics (Ingenuity Systems), telecoms (Vodafone-Iceland), mobile software (Dimon Software) and venture capital (Arctic Ventures, IQ Capital). Sveinn first transacted Bitcoins in August, 2011. Sveinn holds an MS, Management Science from Stanford University, a Ph.D., Physics, from Boston University, and a BS, Applied Physics, from Columbia University.

Michael Parsons

Founder - Breaking Bit

Michael Parsons is an independent Bitcoin Advisor, Entrepreneur and experienced (Worldwide & UK) Bitcoin Presenter and a founder member of the UK DCA (Digital Currency Association). Michael is also a UK qualified Chartered Accountant (FCA) and was previously a Banking Management Consultant for two of the ‘Big Four.’ (KPMG in Moscow & PwC in London).
Michael is the crypto/virtual currency advisor to the States of Alderney and was the first formal presenter of Bitcoin to Barclays Bank.

Mark Lamb

Co-founder, CoinFloor

Mark is CEO of CoinFloor, a London-based Bitcoin exchange. Mark has founded several tech businesses, including Zeltor Technology Solutions. He became involved in Bitcoin after setting up Rewardr, a mobile app startup which issued virtual currency.

Lui Smyth

General Manager Coinjar UK

Lúí leads the UK operations of CoinJar, Australia's largest digital wallet and exchange. With six years of research experience in media and government, his first foray into the Bitcoin world was as an anthropology postgraduate at University College London, examining the social processes that allow digital tokens to hold financial value. His
research has also looked at the politics, motivations, and demographics of Bitcoin early adopters.

Matt Monach

Quantitative Analyst, Standard Life Investments

Matt Monach is an investment professional with several years of financial industry experience and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. In his day job he analyses the quantitative aspects of the financial markets and in his spare time he leverages his knowledge to analyse the investment potential of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Nick Lambert

COO MaidSafe

Nick has an MSc in Marketing and has spent the last 10 years in senior marketing positions. Prior to that he fulfilled project management roles within large blue chip technology companies. Nick is responsible for sales and marketing, intellectual property, user support and MaidSafe’s revenue streams.

Scott Maxwell

Independent Board Level Consultant

Following a rapidly progressing early career leading the operations within technical start ups I left the commercial sector to broaden my professional and leadership skills as a Weapons Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy.

Returning to a board level Operations Director role, I brought a unique and comprehensive set of professional skills and a focus on effective leadership. Moving into an extended role focussing on financial strategy, I developed my knowledge further through the LSE’s Executive Programme. After leading a multidisciplinary board-level business review for an international partner I accepted an interim MD position.

Daniel Masters

Director at GAJL

From February 1994 to February 1999 Mr. Masters was employed by Morgan Guaranty Trust Company (“MGT”) in New York. His last position there was Head of the Global Energy Trading business. From July 1987 to January 1994, Mr. Masters was employed by the Phibro Energy Division of Salomon, Inc. (“Phibro”). Latterly,his responsibilities at Phibro included several trading and risk management functions. He was involved in the establishment of the UK natural gas and electricity markets, transacting some of the first electricity forward agreements and some newly structured options-related physical natural gas deals.

Max Steele

Data Scientist at Coinometrics

Max is a recent graduate from the University of Bristol with a Masters in Mathematics & Computer Science. With a solid background in both programming and statistics, he has always had a keen interest in analysing data which formed a large part of his attraction to Bitcoin. At Coinometrics, Max analyses blockchain and market data to produce data visualisations and analytical tools.
